Chelsea Peretti in First Time Female Director.

Chelsea Peretti Sets March 8th Release Date For Directorial Debut, "First Time Female Director"

Last summer, we learned that comedy queen Chelsea Peretti had been working on her directorial debut, where she also stars, writes & produces in the appropriately meta-titled film, First Time Female Director. The film ended up landing at Roku after debuting at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival and today, we have a first look at the film's trailer & learned it's finally coming to the Roku Channel next month.

Everything to know about & the synopsis for "First Time Female Director."

The movie follows aspiring writer Sam (Chelsea Peretti), who's thrust into the role of director when the Regis Theatre's director is fired. Hand-picked by the theatre's artistic director, Sheldon (Andy Richter), Sam is asked to direct the Regis' upcoming Southern-inspired play, 'Rain's Comin' In.'

Sam dives into the opportunity, and hilarity ensues as she struggles to wrangle the eclectic cast (quite the stacked cast of comedy players we might add). Featuring the classic theater kid Rudy (Benito Skinner); over-trained amateur Clara (Kate Berlant); vain, tech-addict Davina (Meg Stalter); theater vet Marjory (Megan Mullally); acting savant Simon (Jak Knight); and Corden (Blake Anderson), whose minor acting credits give him high status in the company. Barely making it through each rehearsal, Sam vents to her eccentric therapist, Meg (Amy Poehler) and even turns to the Regis' arrogant-but-dorky usher, Robbie (Max Greenfield), for drunken comfort.

As Sam struggles to understand why she can't seem to nail her production, she tries different tactics to make her play a success. "Will she finally hit it big? Or will being a first-time female director lead her to try a totally different career?"

What they're saying about "First Time Female Director."

When speaking to PEOPLE, Peretti said in a statement "this movie has some of my favorite comedy people in it, who deliver gems on the confusing trappings of identity in contemporary society, the pitfalls of female leadership, the existential crisis of trying to make your work and life mean something, mob dynamics, and the distinct possibility that any one of us at any time might be an actual loser."

Additionally set to appear in the movie are Tim Heidecker, Natasha Leggero, Xosha Roquemore, and many more surprise cameos.

With this all-star ensemble cast & comedy power players playing both in front & behind the screen, we're certainly looking forward to finally seeing this movie.
